Workplace Motivation

Part of the mission statement for Select Specialty Hospital is "to ensure high quality health care and cost effective outcomes by providing specialty inpatient long term acute care and outpatient rehabilitation services to those we serve while providing a positive work environment for staff". To achieve this, employees and management have to work together as a team. Staff has to treat others, as they would like to be treated. We strive to treat fellow employees and patients with respect and promote a positive environment where people feel valued. We believe in honesty and straightforwardness in our communication and relationships. We give honest feedback and constructive criticism to help other employees achieve their objectives. We pride ourselves on finding creative solutions to meet challenges we encounter every day.
             Motivational strategies affecting productivity.
Select Specialty Hospital uses a motivational tool called FISH. Management rewards employees who exhibit a "fish behavior" with Fish Stix. Fish Stix can be redeemed for movie passes, meal tickets, or other freebies. The FISH philosophy or FISH behavior is:.
             v Choose Your Attitude.
o A good attitude is contagious. One person can set the mood for everyone.
o Only you can change your attitude.
o Even if everything that can go wrong does, your day will not seem as bad if you have a good attitude.
o You can choose your attitude. Just as you choose what clothes to wear, you can choose what attitude to wear. Wear a smile.
             v Make My Day.
o The smallest act of kindness can make a person's day.
o Offer help whenever you can.
o Hospitals are overwhelming places. If you see someone who looks lost or confused, offer him or her assistance. It will make their day.
             v Be Present.
o It is almost impossible to hold more than one conversation at a time. Devote all your attention to the person you are speaking to.
o Take time out from the task at hand when speaking to someone.
