On Board Computers

Many cars today are equipped with onboard computers. The car computers allow those inside the automobile to check their e-mail, play games, talk to others online, receive driving instructions, and watch movies on DVD. A lot of hype has risen concerning the ability of a person to be able to concentrate on driving while also trying to access the onboard computer. People that are opposed to using onboard computers while operating a vehicle are using the argument that it is just as unsafe as being on a cellular phone while driving a car. I agree that both using a cellular phone and an onboard computer while driving is extremely dangerous, not only for everyone inside the vehicle but also for those that are around the vehicle. .
I would not be interested in purchasing a vehicle with an onboard computer system for simple reasons. First, I would not buy a car decked out with a computer because it is absolutely unnecessary to have one. Why would someone pay thousands of extra dollars to have one installed when they are able to access the same information from the computer at home? Secondly, I do no approve of onboard computers because they are distracting in the same way that a cellular phone is. When you are driving all of your attention should be on the road. The only thing that should be of your concern is you, and the people around you. .
New York just recently passes a law forbidding automobile drive to talk on their phone while in motion, and I think that a similar law should be passed mandating that those driving not use an onboard computer. With a law such as this in effect the roadways would be a much safer place to be, for everyone. .
In conclusion, whether it is on a major highway, a dirt road, or a side street in the suburbs I think it is absolutely unnecessary for a car to have an onboard computer for safety reasons. .
