This was just the beginning in a long line of success to follow Jennings. Although the young Jennings was quite talented he never had a strong affinity for books however he holds degrees from Trinity College, Carleton Univ and Rider College2. His big break came when he was able to report the breaking news of a train wreck while working for a small radio station in Brockton Ontario. This gained the attention of Canada's first private TV network and later the eye of ABC New's Elmer Lower, whom ultimately would aid Jennings in landing a 15 minuett evening news segment2. His combination of physical presence and charming personality opened wide doors for the young anchor. At 27 Jennings was promoted to ABC Evening News Anchor, this unprecedented promotion made Jennings the youngest Anchor to ever host the show2. He now battled with the likes of Walter Cronkite and David Brinkley. This competition seems to have fueled his drive to succeed and in the subsequent years he would hone his journalism skills as a foreign correspondent in Rome as well as numerous other dramatic accomplishments. In the years to come Jennings would gain many valuable relationships. Such as being a favorite correspondent to Anwar Sadat and gaining exclusive interviews with rising middle eastern powers such as Ayatollah Khomeini2. The upcoming years brought even greater success to Jennings, as he moved through positions such as World News Tonight anchor and ABC World News Tonight with Peter Jennings1. His list of recognition and awards is extensive and aids in asserting the powerful influence he has had in the news media. He has been the recipient of such distinguished awards as the Alfred I duPont-Columbia University Awards, Overseas Press Club awards not to mention 12 national Emmys as well as the coveted Peabody Award1. His role in the news media has brought dramatic influence to world affairs and aided in bringing the public information which is revered for its accuracy3.
