            The Rime of the Ancient Mariner was written by Samuel Taylor Coleridge in the .
             This is a poem about a Mariner and some troubles he comes upon on a .
             sailing ship traveling the seas. In the following paragraphs I will explain the.
             exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and the denouement of The Rime of the .
             Ancient Mariner. .
             Exposition is defined as the meaning or intention of the play. It also provides .
             background information needed to understand the characters and action. Therefore the .
             exposition begins when the Mariner starts his story. The ship is traveling in a southern .
             direction when a storm hits. This forces them toward the south pole. Until a seabird, .
             also know as the albatross comes to their rescue. The albatross stays with the ship .
             following them northward through fog and floating ice. .
             The rising action in this poem comes when the Mariner shoots the albatross with .
             his crossbow, unaware of the bird's meaning. The shooting of the albatross brings a .
             horrible curse upon the men. The Mariner realized he had done a horrible thing. The .
             men on the ship cry out agianst him for carrying out such an unthinkable act. .
             The climax comes when the albatross starts to get revenge with the Mariner and .
             his shipmates. The ship continues north until it reaches the equator. This is when the .
             albatross starts to get revenge. The breeze stopped and the men were left in rotten .
             water that could not be drank. The thirsting crew angrily hung the dead albatross .
             around the Mariner's neck, as a symbol of his guilt. Then the men notice a ship coming .
             towards them, even though they themselves are stranded without a breeze. .
             On the ship is a Woman, Life-in-Death; and her mate, Death. They were .
             throwing dice to see which of them would take control of the drifting ship. Death won .
             the entire ship's crew, except the Ancient Mariner, who was won by the Woman. He .
             would live, to make up for his sin against Nature.
