On Tidy Endings

She feels everything should have gone to Marion. Marion on the other hand, feels that the three years Collin and Arthur spent together certainly deserves him the right to be the beneficiary of the items left to him in the will. She also noticed minor things about him and in some cases manages to try and help him. She knew that Arthur had no money at the time and so she decided to give him half of the purchase price of the apartment even though she was not obligated to do this. After all, he had no job. She knew that his mindset was that he hated dragging a lot of stuff around with him and she was right because he confirmed after he tried to give the teapot to her. Marion felt that Arthur was very admirable. She told him that although Jim, the son of Marion and Collin, is having trouble adjusting to the situation that was occurring at the time, that he still fond of him. Marion felt that Arthur has overstepped his boundaries when the two of them were discussing how Jim felt and about how the news should have been broken to him regarding his father becoming gay. From this, we can figure that Arthur was pushy at times. She also felt that he was a critic. She felt that it was very easy for him to tell her how she should handle issues with her son. She told him that he couldn't imagine what it was really like for her to go through the things she endured through it all. He takes situations and life in general for granted. She felt that he could be selfish as well in the sense that he thought that he was the only person grieving and hurt by the passing of Collin. After she made the comment to him that he was not Jim's mother and they had a heated discussion, Arthur offered her a hot cup of coffee. She then realized that he did have a motherly side to him. In her eyes, Arthur was worthy of continuing a friendship with and would have loved for him to remain in her son's life as well.
