The Lady With the Dog

Pain and suffering clearly lie ahead. It is quite possible that their lives will be destroyed by their illicit love.
The story is emotional and brings to life the loveless marriages that many couples found themselves in due to the nature of marriage.
"The lady with the Pet Dog", Huber remarks that when Gurov realized that he loves Anna it signifies his "moral regeneration". Because of his love for Anna things have changed for him, "Gurov has come to alienate himself from amoral, gluttonous, frivolous life of his class." From that point on Gurov's feelings towards Anna are "genuine" and real, as real as they can be for a human and this has a profound effect upon him.
Gurov has had affairs in his past and what makes this one special?.
fact that because he truly genuinely loves Anna he wants to change to be a better individual, a better lover, a better man for her. He wants to do right by her. He loves her and not only wants to keep her but knows he has to change his life to do so. "And it seemed that, just a little more - and the solution would be found, and then a new, beautiful life would begin; and it was clear to both of them that the end was still far, far off, and that the most complicated and difficult part was just beginnnig.".
They feel fettered by the restraints of society.
