As a result, more than 200 years later, "homeopathy was widely practiced in the United States, when there were 22 homeopathic schools, more than 100 homeopathic hospitals, and an estimated 15% of physicians practicing homeopathy" (1). However, most of these schools and hospitals were forced to close down and hinder activities due to government intervention.
After 15 years of conquered homeopathic practicers and patients, the silence slowly yet surely had come to an end, and homeopathy found its way into the homes of many people once again. Researches found that, "approximately 2.5 million people had sought help from a homeopathic doctor in 1990." (2). Homeopathy is the second most popular and used form of medicine in the world. Many reasons lie behind the popular demand for alternative medicine. Firstly, it is relatively cheap and simple and easy to administer, this is because the remedies are based on water and barely have any ingredients. Rather than always checking the expiry date on each bottle of medicine, the homeopathic remedies avoid such a hassle. And unlike homeopathic remedies where a bottle can last a lifetime and still be fit for taking, one expired pill from an orthodox drug can prove fatal. Also rather than those hasty "one-minute" consultations at the doctors" office, a homeopathic doctor takes his/her time (sometimes up to an hour) to find the right remedy for each patient's complaints, aches and pains (2). Homeopathic treatment has no side effects what so ever, as there are no active ingredients and therefore there is no risk. The remedies don't even need a prescription when going to buy it, which is because it is in no way damaging. Before taking a pill, the individual has to read an on-going list verifying the numerous side effects and not to mention the unending precautions, which should be enough to make a person take a step backg to one's health.
