Von Schelling

 

His book linked the duality of the empirical-self (the ego) with non-ego, (conceived by Fichte in his Synthesis in Art.) The concept of transcendental philosophy is that all knowledge is founded upon the coincidence of an objective with a subjective - we KNOW only what is true - truth is generally taken to consist in the coincidence of presentations with their objects.              Schelling never finished his work on Darstellung meines Systems in Ganzen (1801.) The basic idea behind it was that speculative and imaginative thought could form a basis for scientific study to bring about objective knowledge. This type of thinking appealed to Romanticists and allowed them to tap into mystic and religious concepts for self-discovery.
             In 1803, Wilhelm Friedrich Joseph von Schelling was appointed to the Chair of Philosophy position at Wurzburg University after divorcing his wife of three months, Caroline Schlegel. In 1804 he was influenced to write Philosophie und Religion by his friend F.X. Baader, a Roman Catholic theologian. He was also inspired by the writings of J. Bohme, which explored religion and mysticism, two things that Schelling was fascinated by. By 1806 he had resigned from his chair at Wurzburg University and took on the position of General Secretary of the Akadamie der Bildenden Kunst in Munich, before being invited by Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia to work at Berlin University. The king hoped that Schelling's religious thought would change the tone of philosophy taught at the Prussian capital. In 1809, Schelling published a book on the consumate functions of art and aestetics, Philosophie der Kunst. .
             Von Schelling is most noted for his philosophies on Nature and our involvement with it. The foundation of Objective Idealism is the indifference between Nature and Spirit. Schelling gives an appearance of detatchment to views which essentially consisted of a subjective pantheism.
