Concepts Of Psychology Of Work

In this paper I will describe how the concepts of work stress, situational constraints and unity of command was used in the movie Office space. I will describe a few scenes and then show how the concepts are portrayed in each scene. I also will make suggestions on how things could be better, and I will show how the character reactions were in each scene. .
In the first scene that I am going to describe was at the beginning of the movie when Peter had just came into work and he was at his desk doing his job and one of his bosses came to him and told him that they have changed the cover sheet of the TPS report and that there was a memo that went around stating this change. Peter did not follow this change. Five minutes later another one of Peter's bosses came to him and reiterated the same thing that the first boss had told him. After receiving two visits about the cover letter he also received a phone call. I think this is when the concept of unity of command should come into play. Unity of command is the concept that each subordinate should have only one supervisor. This can be found in the book under classical theory. I think that if this office had this concept then you would not have employees getting upset because superiors are reiterating things. There would only be one boss in charge of a certain employee. When there is more than one person down your back at work it makes things a little more stressful. In another scene when the consultants were interviewing Peter he further let them know that it is annoying when your bosses come back to back and tell you the same thing over and over. This shows how much pressure that having more than one boss can have on a person. I think a solution to this problem would be if you did have more than one boss that they talk about the problem together before they approach the employee. Only one of the bosses would tell the employee what is wrong with the job they are doing.
