Monks

To me the words Monk and Monastery first come to mind as religious figures. A monk is a priest that lives in a monastery which is a housing place for monks that has a chapel and many religious icons in it. A monk wears a brown robe with a hood and a rope around the waist. Monks are very quiet priest that pray all day and try to find there inner self and are very humble. Monasteries help monks keep focus and keep them away from anything that will set them off of their path.
It seems so weird after reading this book The Rule of St. Benedict, I never realize what monks ready did and went through everyday, even though there are so many movies, books, and places where I have seen and read something about a monk. I never knew there where different kinds of monks, I guess I assumed but just never noticed a difference. I have seen movies about the anchorites, where they where fighting against the devil. I also never knew that monks had so many strict rules about there obedience, restraint of speech, and humility it seems also impossible that people can live like that under such strict rule. These are all thing I understand now why monks are so respected and honored. I also can't believe how monasteries are so organized and strict by having a dean, sleeping arrangements, monastery cellarer, weekly chores, fixed amounts of food and drinks. It just seems so unreal how they live like this.
