How Marketing Has Affected My Life

Throughout time, marketing has made some very adequate transformations. From the Baby Boomers to the people of Generation Y, standards have changed, families have separated, and what was once accepted then is no longer thought of now. As the market expands and our economy grows in numbers, the wants and needs of us, the consumers, increase as well. .
Marketing is used everywhere. When people go to the grocery store, they make decisions on which item to buy based on what appeals to their needs. If one type of breakfast cereal is on sale this week but the other is the type their children prefer, they may be faced with a marketing decision. When teenagers go shopping at the mall, they decide where to shop and what the hottest trends are. Businesses know that children are a major role in society and some companies use the kids as their target market. They make products that would appeal to almost every child. By doing this, parents see that their child is satisfied and may continue to do business with a certain company.
Being a consumer in 21st century, I have an idea of what society is looking for. Consumers want the new and best items out there. They look for luxury and inexpensive items at the same time. A good example of this type of consumption is found in my personal experiences. I work at a well-known fitness center in the children's day-care. Our job is to look after and care for the members children while they work out. Another task that we do and are unaware of is sell the club to potential members. When guests tour the club, they look to see what the club has to offer for them and their family. What usually pushes the guest to join is the day-care. When they come in and ask questions regarding the day-care, subconsciencly we use marketing techniques. We explain the features of our facilities and make the customer want to be involved. We speak highly of our day-care and reassure the guest that their child will be exposed to a friendly, fun-filled environment, with only the best care possible.
