Her father is a minister. Jamie is a kind, sweet, and extremely trusting girl. Morrie and Jamie give off a parallel aspect in their nature. You almost feel like one of the books could be an added on chapter about the grandchild Morrie never knew he had.
Both books teach lessons. I see there being two big life lessons learned in each book. In A Walk to Remember we have to look underneath the text to find these lessons. In Tuesdays With Morrie every chapter is titled with the lesson we will learn. So the lessons with Morrie are all very self- explanatory. However, we all learn lessons differently, so you may just have a different experience from the one I have encountered.
A Walk to Remember isn't just about a girl who appreciates everything and is diagnosed with leukemia. Jamie Sullivan was a very shy girl in her high school. To some.
of the "popular" kids she would be considered the "nobody" or at least the number one "goody-two shoes." They didn't want to get to know her. The way Landon Carter got to know Jamie was really an accident. But one thing led to another and the love between Jamie and Landon quickly became unbreakable. .
One lesson I've learned from this book is that no one should be considered a "nobody." In life, there will be ignorant people who will do that sort of condescending thing to just judge someone. In fact there are a whole lot of people who do those things. (I"m just looking from outside the box here folks.) I"m not saying these statements because I believe I"m a saint. I"m saying them because I believe people should be non-judgmental, even though I know I"m at fault as well. The big picture that needs to be realized is that we have to keep open minds. If Landon hadn't talked to Jamie and not cared what his friends thought about his relationship, he would have never have known about the amazing things that were behind "his wall" in life. He would never have met his wife. And if we don't take a chance in talking to some one that we pass by every day who knows.
