War On Drugs

People have many reasons why we should legalize drugs, like, So many people are going to jail, it is a victimless crime, violent crimes will go down, the government spends too much money on the war on drugs, and smoking marijuana is harmless. People like too believe that the War on Drugs is a failure. Some people have given into the hype that if we legalize drugs all are problems will just go a way, well sorry to say they will not. These low life drug dealers are just going to walk away from the only way there know how to earn money, the only job they have ever had. So many people are killed every year from legal drugs so why not just make more drugs legal and even more readily available this makes no sense. .
Marijuana is harmless. "Long-term use of marijuana produces changes in the brain similar to those seen after long-term use of cocaine, heroin, and alcohol. damages and destroys nerve cells and causes other pathological changes in the hippocampus (the major component of the brain's limbic system that is crucial for learning, memory, and the integration of sensory experiences with emotions and motivation) researchers have discovered that learned behaviors, which depend on the hippocampus, also deteriorate. Daily use of one to three marijuana joints appears to produce approximately the same lung damage and potential cancer risk as smoking five times as many cigarettes. The same lung cancer risks associated with tobacco also apply to marijuana users, even though they smoke far less." .

The War on Drugs is not a failure, crime statistics show that drug use, drug-related and murders have all gone down. The War on Drugs is more expensive than ever. Sure it has not gone down as much as we would like it to. It is true that we now know that many more people use drugs than we thought in the past. Exposing the dangers of drug use, arresting, prosecuting and jailing drug pushers is a price we must be willing to pay no matter what the cost; in order to save our society from drug addiction.
