            Rideau explains criminal behavior in his story presenting you with a bunch of failures and rejects. He talks about how they have been put in jail for common negative impulses that they acted on. He describes them as being doomed because they are uneducated and don't have the proper skills for life. The majority of criminals to be sent to prison were mostly misfits and African Americans.

Prisons don't work because they don't focus on the person's growth in prison. Most people don't even survive in prison completely knocking down the importance of the institution. Change is uncommon in prison because rehabilitation and educated people rarely occurs. They are categorized as the trash of society, so the is little room for growth in education and rehabilitating because its not something there used to. .
