             Austria and Prussia were rivals. Austria and Prussia revelled in each other's miss-fortunes and misgivings and found each other incomprehensible, they both squandered their abilities and energies and actions which where meretricious, mere and mercurial depending on each others actions. There was a distinctive lack of enthusiasm, they both looked at each other as if they were a tyrannizer: a tyrant, they squandered by going for one another and not working for their beliefs, they were almost conterminous but both wanted a united Germany and to be eminent but they were unwilling and not forth given of accepting the "opportunity costs" which carried with uniting: these "opportunity costs" included: loss of armies and authority to raise taxes etc. As a chance of mere coincidence Prussia being second in charge of the Bund protested and played a constant threat to Austria. Prussia had significantly a strong government, powerful army, treasury, economy and an infrastructure all the necessities that are vital and definitive to lead unification: the five essentials to lead a nation. Prussia was a pulling agent, she was pro-liberal and pro-kleindutsch and pro-nationalist, she had the support of the princes which accentuates Prussia did not stand alone in the animosity of it all. However Austria was essentially totally antagonistically hostile to liberalism and nationalism, she was totally hostile to German unification. Austria undoubtedly shun a light on the ultimate strength of her might, her hostility as she crushed the Prussian led effort union at Olmutz and forced her withdrawal, thus showed nationalists and liberals the strength of her hostility and documented the fact that Austria was one "mighty" rival. Austria and Prussia were rivals as they both wanted to be leaders and neither where forth given in the possible incidence of backing down, they both wanted to control Germany's states this enrolling a bigger hole in the depth of their rivalry as this took out the possibility of co-operation.
