Companies like IBM & COMPAQ have large databases and have thousands of users connecting to their servers each day. It is vital for these companies to keep their customers happy, with patches, fixes or printable instructions ect, so large bandwidth is required to cope with all the demands of the everyday customer connecting to their servers. The huge bandwidth that cable offers is the only way a forward thinking company could realistically communicate and compete in today's fast moving market.
Probably the most famous of all the companies is Microsoft. They have millions of customers from all over the world and their servers would crash if they did not have huge bandwidth.
