Invasion of Iraq: Guided by Necessity or Driven by Greed?

Saddam Hussein possesses weapons of mass destruction and uses them in very cruel and inhumane ways. This evil dictator had used them against his own people and will not hesitate to use them on another country.
In November of 2002, the United Nations Security Council passed resolution 1441, which was intended to force Iraq and its dictator to destroy all weapons of mass destruction and force Hussein to allow U.N. weapon inspectors into his country. Hussein complied with these terms and understood that if he did not, he and his country would face serious consequences. In December of 2002, Iraq presented its 11,800 page weapons declaration to the United Nations. After reviewing the weapons declaration presented by Iraq, President Bush, Secretary of State Colin Powell, and Prime Minister Blair concluded that the current inspections of Iraq were not satisfying the ultimate goal of disarming Iraq of the weapons in question. (Niman 20).
Although Hussein cooperated with the demands of the United Nations and allowed inspectors into his country, Bush and Blair found him to be in contempt with the current resolution and pursed an invasion of his country. The U.S. asked that a war on Iraq be approved and supported by the U.N., but the vote was never approved. These two leaders were convinced that Iraq had been hiding weapons of mass destruction even though the inspectors found nothing solid to prove this belief. On March 20, 2003, U.S. and U.K. troops officially started the invasion of Iraq territory with both air and ground attacks. .
With both innocent troops and Iraqi civilians being slaughtered on the battlefield, the coalition forces find yet one more reason for the necessity of this war: to free the Iraqi people from the evil regime of Saddam Hussein. Bush and Blair want to see this "uncivilized" nation of people be brought under a democratic government. On April 4, 2003, Prime Minister Blair stated his notions for a democratic government in Iraq while being interviewed on Abu Dhabi TV: "We don't want to stay there a moment longer than we have to and as soon as we can get to an interim authority run by the Iraqis we will do so.
