In the past few weeks both the water heater and the furnace in the unit broke and needed to be replaced. The apartment is costing you more than it is making in revenue. What do you do?.
             Imagine you are a professional looking to invest your money in a real estate endeavor. After evaluating the housing market in NYC is it more worth your while to purchase units that are rent stabilized or to invest your money in an office building that you could rent out to small proprietorships? Which would you choose?.
             Imagine you are a thirty-year old lounge singer looking to move out of your rent stabilized apartment because the neighborhood is not all that it is cracked up to be. Is it easy to find a new apartment at the same rates that you are currently paying and the same guarantees about maintaining its upkeep?.
             Imagine you are a politician basing your platform on creating more affordable housing in NYC through rent stabilization. Many people like what you stand for, but what do you do when you have to deal with the costs that arise from providing this type of housing? Each of these individual's lives are being affected by rent stabilization in some shape or form. The question is whether or not the effects of rent stabilization are more effective for these people then it is detrimental. .
             Rent stabilization appears to be as necessary to NYC tenants as the anti-trust laws were that protected both consumers and businesses during the beginning of the twentieth century. It seems as if the NYC tenant must be protected from the money hungry landlords that could potentially charge someone an arm and a leg in rent. However, nothing ever turns out to be that good and uncomplicated these days.
