Spectrum

There are many different types of electromagnetic waves in the electromagnetic spectrum. All of the waves are electromagnetic. The spectrum consists of these waves:.
             Radio waves: They allow communication.
Microwaves: They are used for cooking and also for mobile phones.
Infra red: They are use for cooking, night vision, and recently they are being used to send information via mobile phones to other phones or computers to other devices.
Visible light: For seeing, this is the only visible electromagnetic wave.
             Ultraviolet: For suntans.
             X-Rays: for seeing broken bones.
             Gamma Rays: For treating cancer.
             Radio Waves.
To the Victorians, the telegraph was their equivalent to the internet; it allowed immediate communication to anyplace possible around the world. Nowadays we use radio signals to receive a wide range of communications, we use signals received from satellites to receive TV and radio programs. This system also allows phone calls to be made to anywhere around the world with really good sound quality, it may also be used for global positioning systems in vehicles to provide information on the surroundings and position of a certain vehicle.
             Microwaves.
Undoubtedly, the mobile phone has been one of the greatest communication revelations of all time. Microwaves which allow a mobile phone to work allow the small pocket sized objects to send all kinds of information to any where, some also use infrared. Mobile phones can now access the internet and send emails and faxes. Some can even display whole movies sent to the phone. .
             Infrared (IR).
There are many uses for infrared. Infrared (heat) is given off by humans. This can be very useful, for example, in earthquakes; victims buried under rubble can be detected by infrared cameras. As one may often see on television, some TV programs show police chases where they use cameras that detect heat from the criminals running away, this allows police helicopters to see through things like trees during the nigh time where it is harder for the human eye to see.
