Carpe Diem

He found what he was looking for. He found love through feeling it. He found happiness through experiencing it. Yes, he lost a lot. But they were merely person possessions. Just things that meant nothing to him as a compassionate being. Things that were replaced by free thinking, knowledge, love, and compassion. And in this book there is one quote that I find to be perfect for this theme. "And I wish I had the power to tell them that the despair of their hearts was not to be final, and their night was not without hope. For the battle they lost can never be lost. For that which they died to save can never perish. Through all the darkness, through all the shame of which men are capable, the spirit of man will remain alive on earth. It may sleep, but it will awaken. It may wear chains, but it will break through. And man will go on. Man, not men.".
To the Puritans, this concept would more than likely seem mad. They would look at it as a thought that goes against God and all that is holy. When in fact, they too are apart of the never-ending want to be something. Their want is different, true; it is holy and pure. They want to achieve Grace. They want to reach a point of complete pureness from the inside out in which their soul can be free from all the filth of the world. They want to live their life to the fullest. In their own way, they dream of seizing the day just as people of the modern age do. They strive for that sacred change from within that makes them a better person. That helps them achieve what they consider to be perfection. And during that time period, it was still considered "odd" and "weird" to do what they did. They still were going against what was the norm and what everyone else around the world believed in. The King even ran them out because their beliefs seemed too extreme. But it didn't matter to them because they had faith in what they were doing. To them, they knew they were right and even if they weren't appreciated now, one day, they would be.
