Plymouth Colonists

Today is the second of January in the year Sixteen-Twenty-One. Plymouth, being a newly founded colony, is not yet very large and there is little food remaining in the colony. The settlers here seem to get along exceptionally well and have so far been welcoming towards us, despite the struggles of their young colony. They arrived only weeks ago after spending 66 treacherous days aboard their ship the Mayflower. The Pilgrims left England because they believed that The Church of England needed to be reformed, and were persecuted for their beliefs. They were searching for religious freedom in the New World. Of the original 102 Pilgrims who left England headed for The New World, amazingly only one passed away. Two children were also born at sea, Oceanus Hopkins and Peregrine White.
Before setting foot on the New England shore, the Pilgrims and Strangers alike (Strangers are those who came to the New World in search of adventure or to escape the law) signed the Mayflower Compact. It stated their plan for a government outside of the rule of the English Crown.
             .
"To enact, constitute, and frame such just and equal laws, ordinances, acts, constitutions, offices for the general good of the Colony, unto which, we promise all due submission and obedience.".
I am a firm believer that this is just the beginning of a great rebellion against the power of the English Crown. As said by one of the colonists here, William Bradford:.
"As one small candle may light a thousand, so the light here kindled hath shown unto many, yea in some sort to our whole nation.".
The land here is harsh and desolate. Being by the coast, it is cold and windy all the time. The land is rocky and the soil is thin, but there are rich forests full of trees that could be used for lumber to be shipped back to England for profits and supplies. There is also the sea which could be used for fishing, but until these Pilgrims receive some help they will wallow in hunger and despair.
