Aunt Linda

One of my favorite places to go is my Aunt Linda's log cabin up in the beautiful mountainous state of Virginia. There, the mornings are definitely some of the best. I love quietly slipping out of my toasty bed, slowly opening the squeaky glass door and stepping out onto the dusty porch wrapping itself around the entire cabin, like a scarf nestled around a child's neck in the winter. I taste the sweet morning fog and the chill in the air makes the hair on my arms wish they were still in bed. Soon after that, the morning star peeks around from behind the Blue Ridge Parkway and gentle rays warm my skin, smile upon my face and fill my soul with harmonious breaths of life and sighs of joy. The sun continues to rise, revealing exquisite artistry of orange, yellows, pinks and blues across a once blank and blackened canvas. This striking display causes the rooster in the barn to stand at attention, ready to fulfill his duties, yet another sign that it is morning. In the distance, her horses chatter and race across the dewy fields. A blur! My eyes and ears focus nearby to the steady drum of a hummingbird's wings. These petite creatures dart from tree to tree and play with one another while consuming their breakfast of sweet nectar. Then, just when I begin to wonder if anyone else is awake, thuds of enormous paws creep around the corner to keep me company. It is the wise Great Dane, "Tiny", with his rich black coat now painted with a hint of grey lays his heavy head in my lap. All these wonderful remnants remind me that they are all a part of and result of our magnificent Creator, which make mornings at Aunt Linda's cabin an all together amazing and extraordinary experience. .
