Discriptive Essay

Despite the four layers of socks my feet are still cold as I pad out to the garage to grab my boots. The question of the morning is; high rubber boots with the liners that sometimes gives me blisters, or the trusted ankle boots that just don't insulate as well anymore? I grab the low boots; I don't feel like blisters on such a damn cold day. I scratch my head, my fingers sliding through my hair; greasier than normal. I pull it back with ease, no knots to delay the process. It was a no- shower morning; I was only going to get dirtier anyway. I pulled on the boots laboriously due to the addition of socks and laced them, barely able to tie a bow at the end. Grabbing my coat I walk out of the garage and out to my car (that I had actually remembered to start that morning) waiting for me in the driveway.
As opened the driver's side door still laden with ice my mother sticks her head out the front door, and breaking the tranquility of the morning yells, "You want me to pack you some lunch?" I just give her a toothy smile that doesn't spread to my eyes and say no through clenched teeth. .
Finally out of the cold and into my car, my sanctuary. The green digital dashboard illuminates my greasy hair and muck-stained clothing as I reach for the radio dial. Flipping through the stations I stop when I hear my friend Josh's voice. I ask myself when he started working the morning shift at the station. He hates anything before 11 am. So, 8 o"clock on a weekend is unheard of for him. I smile while he tells me of the days events in his very "college-radio" voice. He speaks to me, raspy from a late night and not quite as confident as the shock jocks on the big shot stations. I hear him trying desperately to support his sound and add colorful inflection as he reports the ice advisory for later this week. I smile thinking that I know that kid behind the microphone, I have even kissed him. I pull "in and down" on my gearshift.
