Hunting

I've been blessed by being given the opportunity to do something that a lot of people never get to do. Hunting has been a big part of my life since before I can remember. I spend most of my time hunting for deer and turkey. Between the deer and turkey seasons I find different game such as wild hogs and squirrels to keep me busy. I haven't really harvested too many deer. If I had to count how many deer I've taken it would probably be in the high 20s or low 30's. Most deer I see I don't even get the gun up to even take a chance at shooting them. I simply enjoy the deer, observing how they act and behave when they think nobody is watching them. The scenery is very relaxing and almost intoxicating. I can't help but smile every time I get a glimpse of a fawn jumping and kicking in the air, trying to get some of the older deer to engage in the fawn's games. Occasionally a young fawn will get lucky and the "grownups" will give it some attention that the fawn so desperately longs for but for the most part the fawns are ignored. Most people don't even know what happens during hunting and they criticize it as being a cruel sport that should be banned from our country. These people don't know what it is like to kill your first big buck or to watch these creatures in their own natural habitat.
Down here in the south, It is more common to be hunter but there are still a few groups that hate us because of what we do. We live in a time now where we have people who tell us to think how the deer feel or how would we like it if somebody tried to shoot us. The exact same people are the ones who have never been hunting in their life. They've never had the chance to know what the hunting experience is like. Maybe if they ever got the chance to go it would change their opinion about the way they see hunting.
