The city of Phoenix currently has two radio towers to support the police, fire and other city employee radio systems. They are now building about twenty six new radio towers in order for us to upgrade our radio system from 100+mhz to 800mhz. The new radio system will enable us to provide better service to our community. .
I cannot imagine doing my job with out all of the computer equipment we use today. I spoke with some of the operators who have several years on the job and they like the changes that have been made. Years ago the 911 operator would take the information from the caller by hand, put the information on a card and place it on a conveyor belt which led to the radio dispatcher's room. The radio dispatcher would then read the information to officers over the radio. Today the 911 operator enters information on a computer, and by pressing a button, the same information they entered is now transferred to the radio dispatcher who is working that particular precinct. The radio still reads the information over the air but also sends the same exact information via computer technology to the officers" MDT. I do not believe that I would have this job today if it was not for the new technology being used, or the better pay. .
I believe technology consists of any source of power or tools used to improve our lives. I use some form of technology everyday of my life. Technology can range from televisions and microwaves to computers and cellular phones. I cannot think of a day when I did not use my Samsung 5150, dual band, full color LCD screen cellular phone. My cellular phone allows me to stay in constant contact with my family, friends, team mates and other important people in my life. It also allows me to go online to check my e-mail, movie times and even send text messages to a friend in a different state. I can program a different ring for each person in my phone book, or I can program a particular ring for each group in my phone book.
