             An overview of how the American public experiences the Presidential campaign and politics in general through the lens of the mass media.
             II. Social Responsibility:.
             The media has a social responsibility to give us an unbiased view of the political arena. Many would argue that they represent more of the liberal (The Law) side of the political spectrum. Is the mass media correct in broadcasting anticipated outcomes of elections and what is the result? (2000 Presidential Election- Al Gore vs. George W. Bush).
             III. Evidence:.
             a. 1960's Presidential Election- John F. Kennedy vs. Richard Nixon.
             Did the television coverage of JFK affect the election outcome, especially the debates? Did JFK win his election based on his appearance (public image over political presentation)? .

             b. 1980's George W. Bush Senior vs. Dukakis Presidential Election.
             Did television coverage of this election affect the outcome? Was George W. Bush's public appearance (cuddling a kitten) a major factor in his win over Dukakis?.
             c. April 20, 1993 Bill Clinton MTV Appearance.
             Not a historic date, perhaps, but a suggestive one. Why would the leader of the free world unburden himself like this? Why not? (Public image).
             d. 2000 Presidential Election of Al Gore vs. George W. Bush.
             The media's role in the major decisions of the presidential election of Al Gore and George W. Bush. How did the mass media shape the public opinion of these two candidates? Did Al Gore need the media to change the general opinion of himself as being a "stiff bore?".
             IV. Causes:.
             The transition from typographic America (radio) to post-modern society (television) and its immediate effect on politics. (Postman) The public gets most of its information and facts regarding politicians from media coverage, since most people are not personally involved in politics, thus the mass media shaped public opinion.
             V. Opportunities:.
             a. Public can become more politically involved by lobbying instead of merely relying on the mass media.
