Korean War

One of my favorite things I saw there was the Korean War memorial . After that moment I started to realize I really dont know alot about that war. SO I decided to my report on it. I learned alot more and here is the summarization of all of my knowledge on the Korean War.
The Korean War was the result of the division of Korea. After WW2 the US decided that it would occupy South Korea. The communist Soviet Union occupied North Korea. By the US and the Soviet Union occupying Korea it divided the country even more. The Soviet Union withdrawaled their troops at the end of 1948 the Americans keep their troops longer out of fear of riots and the North taking over the South. Troops from North Korea and South Korea guarded the 38th parallel. Fights started to break out. Recent reports said South Korea started most of these fights. The war as approaching and North Korea knew in order to defeat the US the needed some help, so they went to the Soviet Union and China. .
At the beginning of the war, before the US's evolvement, North Korea was destroying South Korea. On June 26 the biggest battle of the war, at that point took place just 12 miles North of South Korea's capital of Seoul. By June 28 the North had won and taken over South Korea's capital. .
Since South Korea was falling apart the US knew we had to enter the war. President Truman went to the UN. The UN entered in favor of helping South Korea. USSR could have vetoed the vote but instead they boycotted it. The reasons Soviet leader Joe Stalin wouldn't veto that vote are unknown. Some historians speculate that Stalin either wanted to draw U.S. forces into a war that would drain the country of troops and money, or that he hoped to reveal the UN as an American tool. The Us declared war on June 30. President declared war without the approval of the US Congress but instead of the UN. I feel like that was a mistake.
