Easy Rider

That is when they meet up with the drunken lawyer George (Jack Nicholson), who later joins them on their journey in seeking money, freedom, and a good time. George asks them what they are doing in jail and they reply. And he responds by saying, it least you didn't kill someone, a white someone that is. That's like saying you can get away with killing someone if they are colored, but not if they are white. This signifies just a start of the bigotry represented in this film. .
The film builds up it's hate from beginning to end, getting stronger and stronger, until the end resulting in the utmost form of hatred, killing. Billy and Wyatt ask George to join them on their trip to Mardi Gras. George looks like the scrubby private school boy, who's cute, innocent and has a sense of humor. George accepts their offer to take the trip not knowing that he would be taking the trip that would in the end take his life. .
As the three of them head out they stop at a local restaurant only to find the townspeople staring and making nasty comments based on their appearance and the fact that they are riding motorcycles. One man says to the others in the group, " I thought at first that bunch over there, their mothers may have been frightened by a bunch of gorillas. But I think they were caught." The three of them are not waited on or served while in the restaurant, they soon leave after a couple of minutes. You get the real sense that they are not wanted and looked down upon, just by the way they look. They go nearby and build a campfire and decide to rest and spend the night there. They are unable to spend the night at motels because no one will rent to them. In the beginning when and Wyatt and Billy first set out they are refused a place to stay. Therefore they have no choice but to camp out night after night. While at the campfire George explains to Billy and Wyatt why they have received such hostile emotions from people.
