Miguel Street is text about the lives of the people living there and their destinies. All the characters in my opinion seem to be unintelligent and hence they have bleak futures. Elias and the narrator are the only two characters who seem to have a focus and sense of direction in life. In this assignment, I will put myself in the narrator's position and write a letter to Ganesh Pundit, the man who helped me go abroad and study medicine. .
In this letter, I will thank him and ask him to use his influence to help educate the people of Miguel Street so that they can build a future for themselves and live a happy and successful life like myself. I will ask Ganesh to explain to them that life is not all about drinking, watching cricket, driving carts and sleeping around with women. Education is the only thing that can earn one enough money and give one a good, happy and prosperous life. I feel that writing this letter to Ganesh and asking him to help educate the people of Miguel Street is very appropriate and important as the people have no future and indulge themselves in bad social habits. I am writing this assignment in the form of a letter because a letter is a very personal way of communicating with someone else, especially someone who is very dear and close to you like Ganesh is close to me. The language I will use to communicate with Ganesh will be informal and will be the same as the one used in the text to communicate with the people of Miguel Street.
By highlighting the importance of education and using examples of George and Elias's lives and other relevant examples, I will hope to convince Ganesh to help educate the people which will in turn help them live a fulfilling life which they are unable to live. .
