Their Eyes Were Watching God

What I have learned from the book Their Eyes Were Watching God.
Since I have been old enough to read the question has always come up whenever I finished a book, what did you learn from your reading? Of course the answer would always be nothing whether I learned something or not, because I never really took any time to think about the question. When I finished the book, Their Eyes Were Watching God, and was given the question I actually thought about it. Through extensive thought I have learned not to live by the values of others. It is a luxury to have a best friend you can trust. The gender roles in the book are clearly and relatively unquestioned. I have also learned from this book to be loyal to the people you love.
In the novel there is a particular character that takes my interest; her name is Janie Crawford. The reason why I have such an interest in her is because in the beginning of the book to the middle she lives not for her values but by the values of other people. For example the only reason she married Logan Killicks was to please her grandmother. Her grandmother liked him a lot, because he could take care of her and make sure she did not go through what her grandmother went through. Janie's grandmother says, "Put me down easy, Janie, Ah"m a cracked plate" (20). Her grandmother is trying to say for Janie to make her happy and marry Logan, because she does not think she has enough strength .
             2.
in her to see Janie suffer the way she did. Eventually Janie realizes that she has to live her life the way she wants to and not the way other people want her to. .
There will always come a time when you will need that one best friend who you can really trust with the deepest of secrets and in the worst of situations. Luckily Janie has this type of friend in Phoebe Watson. In my opinion she is set aside from the other Eatonville gossips, because she actually cares for Janie.
