Eisenhower was born on October 14, 1890 in Denison, Texas. His parents, David and Ida met when they were students at Lane University. They got married in 1885. David's dad was a farmer, and for his wedding gift he gave them a 160-acre farm and 2,000 dollars. .
Both of them hated the farm and sold it to invest in a small general store, which failed and they went broke. David left to go to Texas in order to get the family back on its feet. As soon as they could David and the rest of the family moved there. They had six boys and their seventh son died of infancy. They moved to a house in Abilene, Kansas where they raised their six sons.
Each one of their six sons was successful in life. The family raised most all of their own food. When Dwight was a kid he had a really strong temper. His mom tried to expose him and his brothers to Christianity, but Dwight never took interest and never really went to church. He later as an adult became Presbyterian. Evan as an adult he never really went to church. As a kid his work in the classroom was good but his work stood out in athletics.
After high school he worked at a creamery. One of his brothers was in college and he gave some of the money from his job to his brother to help support him. Some of the schools Dwight went to were the U.S. Naval Academy, U.S. Military West Point, and Command and General Staff War College. His parents really wanted him to go to college.
He met a woman named Mary Geneva Doud. They got married on July 1, 1916. They had two children John Sheldon Doud Eisenhower, and Doud Dwight Eisenhower.
