He even put one in every hallway of our school. That really drove us crazy and fired us up even more. .
Our next game marked the start of district play for us. Boy did we put a stomping on that first team. The next three games were against the teams who had been predicted to come out first, second, and third place in district. In first place were the East Central Hornets, in second were the Jefferson Mustangs, and in third place were the Harlandale Indians. We played Jefferson first and we beat them by 17 points. Next came East Central whom we ended up losing to by 4 points on our home court. Finally, we played against Harlandale who, like us, were suprising some very good teams. In my opinion, they should have been ranked second. We beat them the first time around by three points on a last second shot that I hit from half court. We blew past the next five opponents with no problem. It was now time to start the next round of district play.
In the second round of district, the schedule flips around. The teams that we played at the end of round one, we now had to play at the beginning of round two. We had nothing to worry about as we cruised through the first part of round two. It wasn't until the end of round two that we really had to come together and focus on what we had set out to do from the start winning the district title. .
Earlier in the second round, Harlandale beat East Central by 7 points, which put us all in a three-way tie for first. All three teams only had one loss going into the last part of district. This was what my coach liked to call "Crunch Time." "This is the time of the season that separates the men from the boys," my coach used to say. We blew out Jefferson by more than 20 points and they were predicted to come out third place. Next we had to play East Central who beat us in the first round. We knew we had to come out to play against them, especially on their home court.
