Phobias

There are many different types of phobias. The people in the movie talk about a few of their phobias. Jacqueline has a fear of birds which is Ornithophobia, Carmine who has agoraphobia which is the fear of fear itself; Christine Keeler has a fear of mice which is Suriphobia, and Kathleen who has a fear of public speaking which is Anthropophobia. The doctors that were trying to help these people are Paul Salkovskis Ph.D. who is a Clinical psychologist, Joanne Weiss a behavioral therapy guide, Costa Lambrias a hypnotist, Dennis Becker a virtual reality behavior therapist, Mary Phillips M.D. a brain imaging researcher, and Roger Callahan M.D. a thought field therapist. They will try and help out the people to get over their phobias. (Phobias: Prisoners of panic).
A phobia is a term that refers to a group of symptoms brought on by feared objects or situations. People can develop phobic reactions to animals (e.g., spiders), activities (e.g., getting on an airplane), or social situations (e.g., eating in public or simply being out in public at all). (American psychiatric association) The people all have different symptoms when it comes to their fears. The only part that they had in common was that they all panicked when confronting their fears. When Jacqueline would see a bird she would freak out and her heart would start beating rapidly. She would also get really pale and try to get as far from the bird as possible. Carmine would almost get to the point of facing his fear and then he would get so nervous that he would back down. He would stutter and get all puffy and back down like he was going to die if he faced his fear. Christine thought that she wouldn't be able to conquer her fear of mice. She wouldn't be able to even look at them. Kathleen would tense up and stutter when she got up in front of a crowd. She would also get very nervous and sweaty when thinking about speaking to an audience. Their symptoms match closely to the phobia symptoms they have.
