Should Media Be Censored To Shelter Children?.
We live in a technology age that has yielded many different outlets for media to convey information to adults and their children. There is a big controversy over the censorship of these media in order to protect and shelter the children. Censorship should not be imposed on citizens by the government or other agencies because adults have a right to view or listen to what they choose. Additionally, what children are exposed to should be controlled and regulated by their parents. It is their responsibility to monitor what their children watch on television as well as what they hear on the radio and CD's. .
Censorship includes the examination and blocking of books, periodicals, plays, films, television, radio programs, news reports, and other communication media that is shown to, or available, to the public. Media censorship is sometimes put into place because content is immoral or obscene, heretical or blasphemous, seditious or treasonable, or injurious to the national security. It is supposedly used for the protection of the family, groups of people, or the state. Groups that are for censorship are usually comprised religious members, parents, politicians, major business companies and military organization. However, media is protected under the first amendment as freedom of speech. The freedom of the media is something that separates us from the rest of the world. .
Censorship of the media for children is necessary, but should not be handled by government or other groups. Instead it should be directed and controlled by parents. Censorship for children is necessary because the average American view's 100,000 acts of violence on TV before reaching the age of thirteen, many of the violent acts are presented by news stations. The news is a necessary media for parents, needed for information about everything from weather, to traffic, to which team won yesterdays baseball game.
