A Raisin in the Sun


            
             Walter Lee is one of the central character of the play " A Raisin in the Sun", a play portraying life of African-American family living on the South side of Chicago. The protagonist of the play, Walter is a dreamer. Like every young men, he wants to be rich and wants to acquire wealth. He thinks money is the solution for everything in life. He wants to start a business with his Friend Walter Lee and invest his father's insurance money in this new liquor store venture. He tries to convince his mother and his wife about his venture hoping that they will support him. He is shown to be a restless and impatient person who would not like people to go against him. .
             He tries very hard to convince Ruth, and Mama about his business proposal. But none of the family member backs him up and support's him. He is than shown to be all alone. I feel his pain in such a situation. .
             Walter's dejection is seen when he has clashes with Ruth on small difference of opinion and lack of understanding. Both of them are right from their side, but still they lack to express and convince each other. Walter feel's Ruth is not able to understand him and his ideas. His pain is reflected when he puts up business praposal in front of Ruth and she does not respond positively. And instead she talks about breakfast and work. He feels that his wife is not understanding and supporting him, and truly so. .
             Being frustrated and dejected, he feels lonely and wants to leave his house and go alone somewhere. He is shown to be a typical man of family who strives to support his family and discover better way of earning money. He is not shown to be a good listener, who argues with his wife and his mother and who does not give importance to family happiness . But he is a Dreamer and wants to earn money. And his dreams are shattered when Mama refuses to give money for investing in liquor shop. He was taken a back and feels shot down for a moment.
