Fashionably Loud

Do you choose what you want to wear or does the media choose it for you? I am one of the millions of young women who struggle in keeping up with the new trends of the season. The media works their hardest in trying to persuade us into buying new things like clothing, the latest shoes, or the best cosmetic for your skin. The media today is the largest advertisements money can buy and many large companies spend millions of dollars for a one-minute commercial on one of the major network.
Television and Magazines elaborate not only on what to wear and when it but also what others are wearing such as movie stars, models, and music artisits. "One of my magazines studied, Bliss, had a photo of Britney Spears on the cover. She is supposedly an "idol" for a young teenage audience. Her image is that of the "perfect" female. Eg) Flawless skin, beautifully made-up, fashionably dressed etc as an "idol", many young girls would love to look like her due to high social pressure." Television, one of the major mediums of the media world, gives on who is wearing what and what is fashionable for the season. Television shows like "She's gotta have it" and Fashion TV are a few shows that give us information on new trends for all different types of people and in all different countries. Television commercial give us the backbone we need to fall into all the schemes for selling. Designers such as Calvin Klein, Levi's and many other try to catch you eye with their cool and crazy commercials. Television influences the way we shop. It accents to each and every one of our wardrobes telling what is hot and what is not.
Teenagers, especially, give a lot of their attention to these television programmers and try to be just like the models on the runway. The commercial try to target the younger generation because they are the market segment with the most money to spend and once they have them hooked they will hopefully have them in the palm of their hands for the rest of their lives.
