The book 2nd chance is about a group of four female best friends that all work in somewhat connected fields of work, Lindsay the head of homicide, Jill the assistant D.A., Claire the chief medical examiner, and Cindy who is a reporter. These four girls are in search of a serial killer who's going around murdering people, Lindsay being the head of homicide goes after the killer and with the help of her friends they begin to piece the puzzle together the murders. Through the story the four girls also help each other out with personal problems such as Lindsay's dad coming back into her life, who I thought through out most of the book was the real murder. Jill having a miscarriage and being extremely upset about it because she really wanted a baby and this was the second miscarriage that she had. Claire being shot in the neck by the murder and Lindsay taking it hard because she felt it was her fault that she got shot. Cindy starting a new relationship with Erin Winslow. In the end while pursuing Frank Coombs it ended up being his own son who was the actual murder.
Lindsay's task function was information seeking because she entered Frank Coombs apartment looking for evidence to arrest him on charges of murder. Her maintenance function was supporting because she was very supportive of Claire after being shot by the murder.
Cindy's task function was clarifying because she was a reporter for a major newspaper she had to make sure all the information about the killer and the whole investigation was accurate. Her maintenance function was establishing norms, Cindy was very outgoing and always wanted to make sure all of her friends stayed in touch and got together at Susie's bar.
Jill's task function was opinion giving, she offered her expertise to Lindsay by letting Lindsay know about the Frank Coombs case from the past. Jill's maintenance function was supporting because Jill was Lindsay's biggest supporter about letting her father back in to her life, Jill tried to give Lindsay's father the benefit of the doubt because her own father had affairs on her mother and she knew what it was like to deal with a father that came in and out of your life.
