Body Piercing

The subject I have chosen for my project is body piercing. It's a relatively painful and interesting experience. Any way you do it it hurts. I got my left ear lobe pierced in a shop with a piercing gun and it hurt for like 10 seconds. The piercing itself took like 5 weeks to heal. I liked the piercing but I felt unbalanced with only one lobe pierced so I decided to pierce the other. I did this myself at home with a tack. This sort of thing is not recommended. The piercing healed fine though and I'm happy with them. A lot of my friends have bodily piercings that look good. Some say they hurt, others say they didn't. I wanted to know more about it in general.
I hope to find out how I could have done my own piercing better and what else can be pierced on the body. This information will help me in the future if I choose to get more than my ear lobes pierced. .
I consulted an internet source recommended by my friend and came up with the following. The ear lobe piercing can be preformed with either a piercing gun or a hollow surgical steel needle. Using the piercing gun restricts your choice of jewelry for the initial piercing and is not recommended by professionals. However, getting your lobe pierced with a surgical needle allows immediate installation of a wide range of jewelry. Studs are usually the initial jewelry, but with a needle you can install a ring which is easier to clean. The usual healing time for any ear lobe piercing is 6 weeks. ("Lope piercing-).
The second most popular place to pierce on the ear is the outer rim or cartilage. This piercing is not recommended to be done with a piercing gun. The most popular way is with a surgical steel needle. ("Ear Cartilage-) As with the ear lobe the variety of jewelry initially increased with a surgical steel needle. The healing time for the cartilage piercing can be 6 weeks to 6 months, the placement varies. If the piercing is ravmitied it can rip or cause lumps and scars.
