Wilfred Owen's poems

            What impression of war is given by Dulce Et Decorum Est and Exposure by Wilfred Owen?.
             In Wilfred Owens's poems he shows that war is unpleasant and not the great adventure promised by the earlier poems. He focuses on how painful death was and how monotonous life on the front was like. To emphasise his message, Owen uses powerful imagery as well as using affective rhyme, rhythm and structure.
             In the earlier poems written by Jessie Pope and Begbie made war seem more like a game rather than a rival.
             Owens poems " Exposure" and " Dulce Et Decorum est" are very different compared to " Who's for the Game?" and " Fallin".
             " Exposure" and " Dulce Et Decorum Est" and "Exposure" are very realistic poems. They describe and tell the truth on what really happened in the war. Owens poems are very gruesome and tell about the distraught agony men were being put through. In Dulce Et Decorum Est especially, Owen goes into a lot of detail of how painful it is t die at war. He uses powerful imagery such as;.
             "Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs" and.
             "Of vile, incurable sores on innocent tongues" this gives the reader a visual image on the torture they were feeling. The quote " Come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs" is onomatopoeic. .
             " Guttering, choking, drowning" is also onomatopoeic. The word Guttering makes us hears the sound of war.
             The poem written by Pope " Who's for the Game?" and "Fallin" written by Begbie are very jingoistic poems and make war seem like a game. Jessie Pope puts across the point of war being fun and like an adventure by saying.
             " Who's for the game, the biggest that's played" and.
             " Who would much rather come back with a crutch, than lie low and be out of the fun". What Begbie is trying to sit here is that you will come from the war wit a crutch but it will be worth it because the war is going to be great laugh. In Begbies poem she does not say that some people do not come back from the war as they die a brutally death.
