Pain is defined as localized physical suffering associated with bodily disorder as a disease or an injury. It is also defined as a basic bodily sensation induced by a noxious stimulus characterized by physical discomfort like pricking, throbbing, or aching. Pain can also be acute mental or emotional distress or suffering. Let me make this a little easier on you.
Every human being throughout history has felt pain sometime in his life. The moment a newborn leaves the womb, they are exposed to their first experiences of light and sound; which is painful compared to the cozy womb they have become accustomed to. Everyone in the world has felt disappointed or let down, which can also be painful. There are two major types of pain in the world, physical pain and emotional pain, which can be defined as two different feelings. .
Physical pain is a perception, not really a sensation. It is more perception than sensation because what one person sees as painful another may not, therefore the pain would be handled in a different way. This perception is real, whether or not harm has occurred or is occurring. There are emotional consequences and behavioral responses to the emotional aspects of pain. This implies that we can learn pain and control it to a certain extent. There are "gates" that are open to pain which allow nerve impulses to reach the brain. Then the brain does two things; try to close the gate to stop the pain, and also send signals to other parts of the body in an attempt to get rid of the pain. Humans can describe pain with one word: unwanted. I don't like pain, but sometimes it is unavoidable, and just happens. For example, I was playing football for my high school last year and I was hit hard running across the middle of the field. My neck popped and I laid on the field scared of what happened. The ambulance came and I found out that I had a concussion and stressed ligaments in my neck.
