The Ongoing Battle for Women's Rights

There have been many great strides in history to help make this country a more equal place for women however there are still many things that need to be worked on in order to make things completely equal. One of the big issues we still face is inequality in the work place. It is not just between women and men but also from single women with no kids to single moms trying to make ends meat to support their family. From wages to hiring qualifications, it seems like there is a double standard. .
             .
One big problem that I think I have the biggest issue with is the gap in wages. The average childless woman makes about 90 percent of what men do for the same job, qualifications, and experience. For those of us who are mothers we only make about 73 percent of what men do for the same job, with the same qualifications and experience. Other countries do not have the same issues as we do here in the U.S.
Another big issue in the work place is the double standard for women being hired in the work place. Women who are mothers are half as likely to be hired than a women with no children. I know some establishments believe that having children can prevent a mother from giving her best, but mothers also have to support their family so it is in their best interest to work their hardest and give their best performance at work in order to keep that job. I recently became a mother and to read statistics like that was very discouraging to me. I want to push myself to be all I can be to give everything I can to my daughter but I definitely feel like the odds are against me, however that is not going to stop me from trying. One way to fix the issue with pay is that there be a standard for pay. Much like minimum wage it will be a wage that some one is paid for a certain position with a certain set of qualifications. If everything is met, regardless of sex they will be paid a certain amount and that will be the same across the board for people who work that particular position with their qualifications.
