Psychology and Personality

Rogers work and findings lead to him receiving many awards for his work in these fields. I am also having a view as a theorist as I believe points of research do impact on how I may look at ones personality. This paper will also contrast the two theories. .
Humanistic theories are where humans make decisions based on their own needs and self-fulfillment rather than the environmental and biology aspects of life. Psychologists genuinely believe that individuals all make decisions on events and decisions in life to suit themselves. Humans create their own behaviour patterns that show in their personality of their own free will. Looking at the humanistic theory of Rogers (2001) who believes "all humans judge the positives and negatives to the events or happenings that take place in our lives." What we believe in or about ourselves can largely depend on what other people in society view or see in us. Putting this into perspective is if we are to feel good about ourselves we need to have felt positive regard from others, otherwise we may not feel good about actions or events that take place in our lives where it has an impact on people in society around us. While humanistic perspectives determine actions most human beings develop personal strengths that allow them to make healthy decisions and have self-respect in their lives. I have found in research that humanistic aspects do make a difference to how we view ones personality being ourselves or others. Humanistic theories stress the basic goodness of humans, while showing we are unique and our need for self-satisfaction to achieve our full potential makes us part of who we are and how we think about ourselves and this in turn features in our personality. This humanistic theory fits into our personality and how we are read as humans. When humans are manipulated by other people or put down and made feel that they are worthless this can have an effect on how we act in our behaviors.
