I assume that most of us have heard of the redwoods. The redwoods seemed to be a mystery to me until I saw them last year. Whenever someone mentions the redwoods, the very first thing pops into my mind is a tree with red leaves and red bark. Indeed, most kinds of redwoods are ever green. The redwoods are well known for their magnificent beauty , their longevity and resilience. .

According to an online article "10 Most Magnificent Trees in the World", the redwood tree is one of them. There are a lot of statistics showed the magnificence of redwood trees. For example, in 2006, researcher Chris Atkins and amateur naturalist Michael Taylor measured a coast redwood tree in the Redwood National Park which is over 379 feet tall and up to 26 feet across; it is confirmed as the tallest living thing on earth. Then there is another genus of redwoods -- giant sequoias, "the world's most massive tree" (qtd.in "Save the Redwood" 2). A giant sequoia tree named General Sherman which is located at Sequoia National Park, "it contains about 52,500 cubic feet, which is roughly equivalent to 21,800 150-pound humans" ("Save the Redwood" 2). personally had a chance to walk through a redwood forest that is located in Northern California/southern Oregon. The trees are very big. The biggest one I saw is about as big as five people holding hands around. And they are so tall that when I looked skywards, I could not see the tops of many of the giant trees. It was the most amazing experience I have ever had in my life. Walk through the huge forest, giant, straight and tall trees reaching far into the sky. The redwood forest was so quiet and serene that made me feel like I had been transformed into another planet. .

However, the redwoods are famous not only because of their skyscraper-tall , but also for their long lives. One of the oldest trees, the giant sequoia is able to live more than 3,000 years ("Redwood Forests" 2).
