Teachers are always available for questions or discussion as are tutors and even other students. Planning and time management is key, which comes from having the right attitude. It is essential that students get help when needed since the real world doesn't coddle, ask about problems at home, care if the individual thought a deadline was flexible, or cut the student some slack if he/she had a cold or a stomach ache. There is no free ride in life. In the "college world, " as in the real world, if anyone does not show up or does not do the work, he/she gets a zero. Aside from apathetic students lacking motivation to be responsible, there are socioeconomic factors that are not within reach of an instructor to fix.
Uncontrollable external factors affecting teacher effectiveness include poverty, inadequate early childhood development, and lack of parental involvement. The job of being kind, gentle, loving, and nurturing should actually lie with the parents; this is not the primary purview of the public school teachers. Hence, it leaves no time to place importance on whether the students have had their share of breakfast, if there are any issues that may affect the student from learning that day, or whether the lack of understanding the material could lead to future procrastination. Furthermore, it is advantageous to student success when parents take responsibility to administer a safe environment at home in order to encourage their children to acquire the basic skills. .
