Social Issues in Talk to Her


            The matter of subject is "Talk to Her"," (2002). The plot of the movie presents many societal issues, such as gender roles, sexual orientation, and the effects of childhood. The main characters of this movie are Beningo Martin, Lydia Gonzalez, and Marco Zuluaga. .

             The movie begins at a dance performance. Marco Zuluaga and Beningo Martin sit next to each other, unaware that their paths will collide in a tragic fashion. Later, while Marco is watching the television, he catches an interview between Lydia Gonzalez and an interviewer. Lydia, at the time, is surrounded by controversy due to relationship issues with her husband. Marco, interested in Lydia, wants to write an article about her; he seeks her out to attain research and information. After becoming closer to her, he drives her home to prepare for a bull fight. In this bull fight, Lydia is traumatically injured; she has her cerebral cortex destroyed and thus, goes into a permanent coma. .
             While over-watching Lydia, Marco formally meets Beningo Martin. Beningo's reason of stay is Alicia. .
             Alicia and Beningo met shortly before she was severely injured in a car accident. Alicia's father was a psychiatrist; in result, he had met Beningo a few days before the incident in a meeting. Because Alicia's father was familiar with Beningo's nursing experience, he did not see a problem in Beningo's aid. While as this hospital, Marco and Beningo become fairly close because of situational similarities; however this relationship is not truly explored in the film. Later, Marco leaves the hospital for a while. Beningo begins to act stranger and winds up having intercourse with Alicia. Alicia is found to be pregnant and Beningo is sent to jail. Marco, hearing of the news, returned to the hospital to see what could be done for Beningo. While there, Marco finds that Alicia has had a miscarriage, but has awoken from her coma and is fully recovered. Marco agrees to withhold this information from Beningo and in result, Beningo commits suicide because of his uncertainties in regards to Alyssa.
