Robert Huber (2012) maintain, "I learned easily and had time to follow my inclination sports (light athletics and skiing) and chemistry, which I taught myself by reading all textbooks I could get ". Most people like Huber, believe that books are very important for students especially from the beginning of their age. The statistics shows that 83% of Americans between the ages of 16 and 29 read a book in the past year. Some 75% read a print book, 19% read an e-book (Zickuhr, Rainie and Purcell, 2013). Based on Pew Research Center, these statistics, it can be seen easily, indicate that not all students and parents are in agreement about using textbooks. Nevertheless, schools should require textbooks instead of tablets for the benefit that student might get to develop their creative abilities and to avoid some problems such as, health problems and the extra expenses.
First of all, tablets will create serious health problems such as vision, backbone dislocation, etc. .
Most importantly, it would cause eye problems which they call it computer vision syndrome. "Syndrome " can include eyestrain, headaches, blurred vision and dry eyes (According to the American Optometric Association). Recent media reports from CBS News and Asian News International (ANI) discover that could have the syndrome without knowing that and it might cause big problem. If someone spends two hours or more daily in front of any digital screen they are risking themselves more for CVS. New York daily news reveal that the reasons behind causing computer vision syndrome is due to the digital media screens are often held close to the eyes, causing eye strain as your eyes shift in and out of focus to view pixilated images on the screens. Plus, some people don't blink their eyes enough when using iPads or other tablets, which can make eyes dry and irritated (Jaslow, 2012). As can be seen, how we can prevent children from this huge problems in the beginning of their life.
