" I wasn't sure if I believed her; even though, it looked painful she had a way of keeping positive. My mother made me realize that diabetes didn't define her it simply was part of who she is. Although diabetes has been a struggle for my mother, she has managed to stay positive and adjust to her diverse lifestyle.
Following this, my mother confronted financial difficulties that she soon overcame with a positive attitude. At the age of thirty-three, my mother, never having had a job or income of her own, was tired of not having any source of income for herself, even though my father was supportive of her and would try to give her everything she needed. One day, she found herself digging into the couches, looking under the mattress, and searching every cabinet in the house for any loose change. At that moment, she realized she was fed up with not having money and always having to ask my father for it. Soon after, she opened up the yellow pages and spent hours calling companies who were looking for employees. It wasn't easy for her because she only spoke Spanish and she had no experience. However, because of her positive attitude, she refused to give up. She would say "I don't care how long it takes me but I will find a job ". After months of searching, my mother found a job. Luckily for her, the manager of a warehouse was in need of an employee and was willing to train her. At the age of thirty-three, my mother had her first job and was proud that she would no longer have to depend on my father for money. Because of her optimism, my mother showed me that great things can be achieved if you stay positive. My father was proud of her as well and that was an achievement she set up on her own. Besides being a great mother she is also a hard worker who never failed to give me and my brothers what we needed. Being an optimist has given my mother many opportunities to change her negative experiences into positive experiences.
