For Justin, the embodiment of the Logos and of Reason is in the person of Jesus Christ, and through him, humanity can know that the pagan gods are truly false and demons. He believes that understanding of this Greek philosophical word "logos"" which means reason, that the study of philosophy has played a vital role to understanding of Christian Faith. He also stated that "the prophets were inspired by nothing but by the divine wisdom of "Logos", who would foresee things at such a distance, is what I believed you yourselves will grant me.""(Christianity and Culture in Dialogue, 82). .
Justin believes that the study of philosophy is an inspiring tool to aid mankind understands Christianity and that is why he was writing to explain in his First Apology. Justin was the first Christian thinker to build a bridge between the Christian faith and pagan philosophy. He believes that the Logos is word, truth and wisdom itself. Thus, anyone who comes to know the truth about the world is a Christian. Remember that in Justin's age, philosophers were not just professionals or academics, but anyone who sought the truth for its own sake. .
During his time, logos is the immediate source of order for the universe, bringing the chaos of eternal, unformed matter into harmony, shaping chaos into individual beings. Plato's disciples would insist that God or the One is beyond our reach, but that by philosophical contemplation, the soul could ascend to its natural place, which is in the heavens with the Logos, and thus come to know all things. Justin's apology is in some ways modeled on another philosopher's great apology. Socrates offered an eloquent defense of his position just before his execution. Like Socrates, Justin the philosopher defends his convictions as utterly rational. He also wants to present Christianity as a way of life that includes the best of philosophy's insights.
