The Unessacery Death of Ashley Smith

Ashley Smith had severe behavioral issues and was placed in segregation after she threw a crab apple at a postal officer. She was transferred to several different facilities but received no treatment. Ashley had a history of self-harm and would choke herself until she passed out. The correctional officers had been told to not go into her cell if she was "still breathing, talking, and moving." This had a significant impact on the outcome of her stay in the correctional facility. On October 19, 2007, Ashley Smith tired a piece of cloth around her neck and laid on the floor as the correctional officers watched. They did enter the cell once Ashley had stopped moving but it was too late. Ashley had committed suicide while the officers were standing outside her cell. This was a very preventable incident. The officers were charged and the warden and deputy were fired but the charges were dropped and Ashley Smiths family file a lawsuit against the federal government for 11 million dollars. .

To implement this I would tell her mother to take her to see a therapist and try to keep her in school on a regular schedule. This could have helped Ashley before she was ever placed in any criminal facility, .
             - March 30, 2003 is significant because Ashley was discharged seven days early from Pierre Caissie Canter. While at the centre, she needed treatment and just because of her behaviour, she received no help at all. Ashley needed help to try to figure out the real reason of her inappropriate behaviour.
