Common Grounds of Religion and Sex

While this is what I believe is widely true for males I think that society has somewhat of the same effect for girls but from speaking to many females they value their virginity more and are not so much into the thought process of how many people they have slept with. Rather, girls look more at the romantic side of sex and losing their virginity. This is also shown in many movies or any form of entertainment in today's society. While the thought process of a female and her virginity changes from high school to college I still believe that a majority of females still value their virginity and are willing to only give it up to someone who has significant meaning to them or is close to them on an emotional level.              Today it is stated that based on a report from the National Center for Health Statistics that the percentage of people still stating they are virgins while between the ages of 18-24 is increasing (Jayson, More College Hookups, but More Virgins, Too, 2011). It is clear that while virginity is something that is socially criticized in many aspects that it is still something that is valued among some people. While not as valued as it once was in society there is still an aspect of it that is respected by males and females. It is in my opinion that most of those who save themselves for marriage are those who follow their religion and stand by what is said in the Bible that a person should save themselves for marriage and that one special person. While this idea is still valued and practiced by many it has become clear that "hooking up" or just being casual about sex has become a much more widely accepted due to society's standards. While this is true the aspect of virginity still remains important and a vital idea when it comes to its importance related to religion.
